Extended information about the location of CASA DA PALMEIRA in Lagos and in the Algarve :

Here You can see the other side of "CASA DA PALMEIRA".
The house with apartments CASA DA PALMEIRA is situated in the quiet villa-area "Pedra Alcada" in the south-western part of the small city of Lagos. The name is easily explaned, because a huge palmtree is dominating the frontgarden, so it really is the "house with the palmtree". And of course the palmtree is thé sign of a subtropical climat, which we have here in the Portugese Algarve. This region has the most hours of sun per year from all over Europe ...!
Lagos is situated on the southcoast of Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean is called here "Golfo do Cadiz". The beach is only 1500 m away. By car you will be there in 5 minutes, with a bike in 10 minutes and on foot about 20 minutes. There are a lot of small pictureque beaches nearby. Praia Dona Ana is worldfamous for its beautiful rocks rising out of the sea. We pretty much like Meia Praia with its tranquil sand-beach and Porto de Mos that is close-by our house. Here you can come in the middle of the saison and still enjoy the beach in all peace and quiet, because there is plenty of room and it's never crowded.
That is
truly one of the big advantages of beach- and tourist-life in and around Lagos :
you will find a lot of nice people and there is a very agreeable atmosphere, but
it's absolutely never crowded, like in Albufeira and the Spanish coasts and
beaches.
Showing the sunset from our garden.
The right-hand picture shows you the view from our roofterrace and you can see the sea. Isn't that lovely !!
Just a sunset in February from our roofterrace. We
like it.......!
Within a 5-minutewalk you can find a big supermarket (Inter Marché), so for your daily shopping & groceries you won't need a car. Futhermore you can use the shopping-trolly that is available. Portugal is part of the European Union so all payments are done with the "Euro"-currency.
The old town of Lagos is within 900 m. of your apartment. By bike You'll be there in 5 minutes and on foot within 10 minutes. The very cosy innercity still is surrounded by mediaeval walls. With lots of restaurants and bars, shops and markets, harbour with a big boulevard to stroll around, etc. etc. Postoffices, 3 pharmacists, banks, hospitals, tourist office, open air theatre, cinema, cultural and historical places-to-be, museum, it's all there.......The fabulous old city with its white paving streets , old citywalls, fishingboats and Marina, and lots of shops and..... really very nice and cosy ! Two years ago the brandnew 18 hole Boavista Golf Resort golfcourse opened, only 800 m. from our house. From our roofterrace we made these pictures, and yes we can see the golfcoarse behind our neigbours. Boavista is one of the finest in the Algarve, so we are told. With 18 beautiful designed holes. All information on Boavista Golf you can find here. With a groundplan; we live at the roundabout from Pedra Alcada, so that's really close. Click on "Boavista Golf Resort" and then with your right-mouse-click on "zoom in". Close the screen to continue reading our website. Furthermore you can find many more Golf Resorts within only a few km's. For instance at 3 km is Palmares Golf; nearby the Meia Preia beach. And at 6 km is the brandnew Parque da Floresta, at 7 km. you can find Morgado Golfcourse, and at 8 km is the worldfamous Penina Championship Golfcourse (the Portugal Open Golf Tournament was held here in last April). Thus opportunities more than enough in our neighborhood for golf-pro's and everyone that likes hitting a golfbal.
Lagos has four 4 big supermarkets ;
The LIDL is the cheapest one and is close-by, has very much but hardly any fresh articles.
The Inter Marché is a good second on prices, lies very close to your apartment (only 450 m.) and has a big variety.
Than we have "Modelo" and "Pingo Doce" (=Albert Heijn) , both are vary big with tons of goods and a great variety in almost everything. You will find what you're looking for in these huge stores. All the fresh food including fruit, bread, meat and vegetables are cheaper then elsewhere in Europe.

Just across our house you can find the medical centre (see the white building on the right-hand picture, taken from our roofterrace). If their is something wrong with your health during your stay, you can easily go to the docter or a hospital. We've got a private clinic with up-to-date technology and knowledge just 600 m away, open 24 hours a day, with specialists from all over Europe. So, Medical Care is always close-by !
NORTH, SOUTH, EAST , WEST , ALGARVE STILL IS THE VERY BEST:
Very close is the route EN125, that leads to the westcoast and places like Villa do Bispo and Sagres (= "the end of the world..." and most southern-western point of all Europe). With a 25 minute-drive you will reach the beaches of the westcoast with high waves and a rougher sea, high cliffs and very beautiful beaches caught in between the mountains. More wind and a little bit colder than in Lagos, but ideal for surfing and wave-jumping ....!! This also is an ideal place for long walks through the natural environment, along the seaside. For a few Euro it is possible that we bring you there e.g. in the morning and pick you up again in the evening.
You can go to the eastside of the Algarve, taking the new highway A22, that's the fastest and most easy way to get there. Or take the old N125, that leads you through all of the old and nice villages, like Armacao de Pera, Carveiro, Albufeira (although very crowdy and touristic in summer), Vale do Lobo and of course Faro, Algarve's capital city. By the way; Portimao has a nice shopping centre, but in Guia and in Faro You can find two astonishing modern and really big shopping centers. The Spanish border is about 150 km from Lagos.
With a small drive up north, you will soon be in the middle of the Monchique. These mountains form a complete other region with beautiful sights. Although last year a lot of the forrest was burned down, there is still plenty to see and to enjoy. Villages, where time appears to stand still and towns people play their games in the local pub....... Also a wonderful place to make long walks. Driving up north also brings you in the natural parc of the Alentejo. Where time has been standing still and everywhere you go there is nature..........beautiful nature...... Also ideal for long walks or go there with one of our bikes...... that's freedom ay...? If You go up north for a long time, it's Lisbon you're gonna see (about 300 km from Lagos). This city still has the character of a village, with nice people, good atmosphere and beautiful buildings, squares and quarters. Lisbon is built on 7 hills and has the river Taag with a spectacular long bridge over it.
The airport of Faro is about 80 km east of Lagos. There's a brand new highway, A22 or IC4 that will take you in only 50 minutes from our house to the entrance of the airport. It is possible that we can pick you up from, and bring you back to Faro Airport (€.40,= per ride). In our Ford Transit Van we can take 4 persons and a lot of luggage.
